“People in London are not friendly. Do NOT talk to them “

It was the worst travel advice that my brother ever gave me.

It was 2008, and I was the bearded baby in this photo.

I knew it was terrible advice the moment it left his mouth. And yet I still hear it from the mouths of people in this group today.

• People are too self-absorbed to care in 2026 (lies)

• Starting conversations works in every other part of America except Boston (lies)

• The world is too divisive (lies)

• My niche is not on social media (lies)

• People I work with don’t have personalities (lies)

• What you believe about people becomes truth.

My brother talked to no one on the trains in London because he believed that people were not friendly.

I decided to prove him wrong and talk to 3 strangers on my 60-minute commute every single day.

He met nobody.

I made lifelong friends. Had one woman in tears as she showed me the photos of her children she had not seen in years.

I found a business partner.

Had 1-2 amazing dates from being friendly.

Created incredible stories.

Again, my brother. met nobody.

It was the same train, but it took us to very different places.

Your success with using social media depends entirely on your belief or lack of belief in humanity...

For me, there’s something about Prague in the Czech Republic.

It birthed a dream in me.

A long-forgotten dream that I am now remembering again.

Your Dreams Have Not Died…

You had a dream once.

It still exists.

It might have changed shape, but what if it has not died?

What if it wants to come back to life?

I think about the film I wanted to make way back in 2009, shot on the streets of Prague.

That script still exists.

The possibility of telling this story is still in the ether.

It could still happen…

I don’t have the timeframe, but I have the dream.

This apology has taken many different forms.

Mostly, I’ve felt the need to explain myself.

To justify my success.

To explain away my failures.

It’s a shitty way of living. To live like you are a walking, breathing apology, who needs to justify their decisions to the people who should have understood you the most.

A lot of risk-taking souls feel this way.

We’ve got to stop doing it, though.

Other people will always feel challenged by our choices. And they will critique the shit out of us.

They won’t understand why we are not choosing to walk the wide path, why we don’t go the safe way, or why we must risk it all for the unwalked future that we can see so clearly.

If you are resonating with my words, understand this:

If you are truly an entrepreneurial soul and you are experiencing being “misunderstood a lot”, then you truly are on the right path.

Being misunderstood is a signpost on your journey.

It is good.

Keep going.

You do not have to explain yourself or apologize

This has been a new learning for me.

To not care so much about the opinions of others.

To not let the critiques of a safety-first person hold you back from living the adventure you know you were supposed to live.

I’ve stopped apologizing for my successes and my failures.

I’ve given up trying to justify my path.

There’s no merit in it.

The only thing it does is steal time and energy. What to do?

I simply smile to myself and keep both imagining and working towards my dreams.

Will you do the same?

It is better to live wild and suffer the consequences of being misunderstood.

It’s been my biggest learning lately

I’ve not mastered it at all yet.

In fact, I drove myself out to my local dam here (pictured) to give myself a f*cking good dressing down.

There are a gazillion different ways to reach your goals in life and business.

And yet as I look as this giant dam I am reminded of one thing.

If you are not spilling over with lifegiving energy then everything will be harder than necessary.

There are a lot of shitty things in my life that have the potential to drain my energy.

Left unchecked…

Holes in the bottom of my cup.

Things that can keep me from living in a place of overflow.

Whether these things are bad habits, unhealthy relationships, anxieties, tendencies to overcommit or whatever…

We’ve all got things that will pierce the soul and prevent us from living in overflow…

Sitting by the dam, I’ve realized two things and I am sharing them here, in the hope that they might help someone else.

1. Plug the holes as best you can. Stay on top of the leaks but know that there will always be new holes springing up.

2. Connect to the source and allow a huge amount of energy to fill you to overflowing on a daily basis. Don’t settle for being half full, a bit full, or “enough.” Be so in love with life that you are spilling over on a daily basis.

There are loads of ways to live from a place of overflow and to be energised.

It is different for everyone.

And yet being energised is essential for any person who wants to chase their dreams

It was my favorite part of the gig.

Taking something that was broken, putting everything in its right place, and allowing it to become whole again.

Like a one-year-old German Shepherd that came into my clinic late one night with a twisted stomach.

It was only a couple of hours away from death.

The entire family, but especially the kids, were devastated and in tears; the dog could not even stand up. The prognosis was bad.

I told them there was a 25% chance that Ruffy would make it.

I also let them know that I was only one year into my career and that I had never performed a surgery like this.

My boss took one look at Ruffy’s swollen stomach and exited the building because he believed there was zero chance of survival.

He was also a bit of an ass, but we’ll save that story for another day.

I prepped Ruffy for surgery, went and read a textbook, and then did a complicated 3-hour surgery I had never done before, which involved removing 1/3 of Ruffy’s stomach.

Exhausted. I put Ruffy into the recovery room.

I called the owners and told them we had finished and that he would be in intensive care for the next 24 hours and that his chances of pulling through were very low.

Oh, the shock I got the next morning…

When I walked into the clinic, Ruffy was standing at the cage door, wagging his tail.

It was the best feeling that I ever had while working as a vet…

To take that something that was broken and to help it become whole.

Not really.

I just want to talk to the doubtful parts that exists inside all of us.

The voices that say, “You won’t do it. You are not enough. You need to be rescued. Life only works out for other people.”

I hear this voice a million times every single day.

If you have doubts you are not alone.

I refuse to listen to it though. I will not make it the defining narrator of my life.

It’s a small, insignificant voice, like a nagging mother that has forgotten her own dreams. It has no rights to this son.

Here’s what I do when I have doubts…

I double my dream.

When I think of my goal of building a community of 300 amazing Solopreneurs who using the internet to start conversations and grow their businesses?

When I doubt my capabilities to do? I make my dream bigger.

F*ck it. Now it’s 600 amazing Solopreneurs!

Like Joseph said after our meeting this week, this feels like church for our business… So I sit on that and I say a resounding YES 🙌

I will not let doubt define me and make me small.

That small, stinking voice? I will own it and I will use it as inspiration for growth.

Own your doubt! Put a leash on it.

When you are afraid that you will not make it, run more quickly towards your goals.
