Just had a chat with Randy, an amazing member of our Sphere Builder community.

Because a year ago, I was in a rough physical spot — grossly overweight, hitting 225 pounds for the first time.

I took my 12-year-old fishing and we had to walk 300 yards over some rough rocks. By the time we arrived, I was red-faced, short of breath, couldn’t stand up, and had to sit on a rock while he fished.

Pardon my language, but I thought… fuck no — this cannot be my life.

So I made a simple decision while I sat on that rock:

Monday morning, I was driving to the gym closest to my house and hiring the very first personal trainer I met.

I did not want to overcomplicate things…

I did not want to waste a billion worthless days trying to find the right person.

I chose someone close and I committed.

I met Sam. He’s completely changed my life.

Here’s the truth:

It’s not necessarily about finding the “right” people.

It’s about choosing the people who are in your life and investing deeply.

Your goals? Your challenges? The things that are out of whack in your life that you want to fix — they are a huge cosmic clue...

Dear Wild Bill,

I remember my first encounter with you like it was yesterday.

You were as hard to the religious right as you could be back in New Zealand in the early 90’s.

You were an angry preacher, an evangelical man of God, whose hair ran wild in wispy streaks across a bald forehead, like dead weeds fighting for survival in a blazing hot summer sun

“There are people here,” you shouted, your voice hoarse and tired, “Who have been having sex up the back passage. It’s called sodomy. It’s an abomination. You need to stand up, come forward and repent right now.”

Silence. Not a soul stood and why would they?

Looking back at it now, perhaps my Aunt Jemima squirmed a little in her seat, I cannot be sure.

As an 18 year old, I slipped out of the church and checked the back passage behind the sanctuary. It was also quiet, no one was having sex there either.

Every Monday night, good people, poor people, people with all sorts of ailments came to see you Wild Bill, to get the healing you promised and yet in hindsight never delivered.

And they paid you so much money.
