Imagine with me, please.
You are standing in an opulent room that is packed full of people who are drinking cocktails and gathered in clusters.
No one is smiling, though.
The cocktails that have been drunk are laced with fear and bitterness.
As you draw near to a cluster of people, you can feel the heat in their argument.
They are angrily discussing the state of the world and the toughness of the times.
As you move from group to group, the voices may be different but the conversation is the same… dark and heavy.
These are your peers. Your friends. Your colleagues and in some cases your industry leaders.
You feel a knot in your stomach.
The cocktails may be free, but you don’t want to stay in that room for one second longer.
You’ve got to get out.
You rush to the door and try to push it open, but it won’t budge.
You try another door, but that won’t open either. There is no escaping this room.
And then… You look over to the stage at the head of the room, and you see, unattended, a microphone beside a large speaker…
These are your choices right now.
Choice One: Try to escape the room, exit the world, leave the ugly discourse on social media behind…
Choice Two: Grab a cocktail, drink it down, and find your own ugly cluster and dark conversation…
OR
Grab the f^cking microphone.
Speak a beautiful truth. Change the atmosphere of the room with the strength, joy, and kindness that you know still exists inside of you.
I know you are brave.
The darkness in the world and on social media is your opportunity to rise up and be different.
What will you choose?
