I grew up in the church, and the Head Pastor used to love quoting Woody Allen.
This was before “Woody’s indiscretions were known to the world.”
“Woody Allen says that “80% of success is simply showing up.” So if you show up to church regularly, you will change, and you will grow.”
This was the essence of the message.
So much wrong here.
It’s also an overly simplistic giant f*cking falicy.
Showing up is what good folk already do year after year, struggle after struggle.
They show up to their job.
They are present for their kids.
They serve their community diligently.
And often nothing really changes. Their struggles? Their challenges? Their level of income remain pretty consistent throughout their years.
Here’s the key: Consistency and showing up have absolutely nothing to do with break through.
So what truly helps a person break through?
These are some hard questions.
What will help you triple your impact?
Scale your business?
Give you more free time every single day?
Help you discover financial freedom in our heinously capitalistic world?
I believe that it’s about risk. I believe it’s about letting go of the routines and the structures that you cling to consistently for safety.
It’s about daring.
It’s about belief.
It’s about trying different things and failing as fast as possible.
That can look like turning the camera on and sharing a vision with the world that you’ve been hiding for a while.
It can be about making a difficult phone call and asking for help.
It can be about almost anything.
If I were to summarize all of this, I would put it into this final paragraph below:
Success is About Embracing Your Wild Side
There are many forms of success, but a truly successful life:
Refuses to be hemmed in or suppressed in any way.
It expresses itself boldly, bravely, and with great passion.
It fails, it gets up, and it tries again, with 3X more vigor.
It sees the whole of life as a wild adventure and a chance to learn and grow.
It plants deep roots, and it forges deep connections with other bold travelers.
True success is always wild, because it is found only in the hearts of a person who is fully free.
