Always trying to do the right things for my kids, but never actually doing the right thing for myself.
Coping and not thriving
Two years ago,
I am sitting on a large gray rock at the beach, in New Zealand.
Painfully out of breath.
Chest heaving.
3 Steps away from a coronary.
And I heard that small voice inside of me speak again. A voice that I had been ignoring for a very long time.
“What if you could still be the fittest, fastest, and strongest that you’ve ever been in your life at 50?”
This is a ridiculously optimistic, annoying voice that I’ve not always appreciated.
In fact, I had been shutting it down for years.
Just coping. Refusing to mope. And always trying to do the right things for my kids, but never actually doing the right thing for myself.
And yet that voice never gave up on me.
It was persistent.
It was patient.
It was waiting for me to finally listen.
The Conversations You Have With Yourself Matter
Self-talk is a real thing.
High achievers often focus on primarily avoiding the negative chit-chat. We tell our inner critic to go sit in the corner and shut up.
But there are other voices too.
Kind voices that dare you to dream bigger.
Those who call us to our highest and best form of living. Voices that tell us “that average” was never our calling.
I don’t know what you’re experiencing right now, but I beg you to listen to the good, kind voice inside of you.
The voice that tells you that your dreams are still possible.
That you can reclaim your health.
Find love again.
Become more prosperous and successful than you imagined possible.
Do you feel me?
Geoff. x
