The State of the World in 3 Words Only

I asked this question today

I was at the gym this morning in New Zealand

In between sets, I jumped on my socials between sets and asked people

To describe the state of the world in 3 words only

Hundreds of replies…

People are feeling fraught, scared, hopeless, powerless, and convinced that none of this will end well.

I asked because I didn’t want to just read the news. I wanted to understand the hearts of the people.

To me, this is more important than news…

I think we are on the verge of something right now as human beings

And I know that there is a very great chance of my words being misunderstood here, so I do want to say this very clearly…

To anyone, anywhere in the world, who is grieving, whose home has been destroyed, whose loved ones have been taken. If you feel as though your future has been stolen from you, then in my very broken, far-removed reality, I feel your pain, and I can only imagine the difficulties you are facing right now.

And yet people everywhere have a choice in a chaotic world, even when evil men cast dark shadows.

Will we embrace despair or hope?

Will we choose love or hate?

Will we sink or will we swim?

You and I might have very little power when it comes to world affairs, but we do have power when it comes to how we treat our neighbors.

We have a choice when it comes to the messages we send out on social?

We have power when it comes to choosing the kinds of friends that we keep.

We have a choice when it comes to the kinds of messages we give our own children

The long shadows will try to convince you that there is no light, no hope, no reason for believing otherwise.

But a shadow is a mirage.

An evil man may block out the sun, but the sun will burn his back and drain him of his power.

Let’s move out of the shadows.

Let’s embrace the people around us

Let’s listen to and love those around us who think and believe differently.

Let’s be unrelenting in the goodness of our messages

Let’s change the world from the inside out
